Annie Glenn Jones
Franklin – Annie Glenn Darden Nicholas Jones, 93, widow of Dr. Darden W. Jones, died January 25, 2010 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was born in Nansemond County, the daughter of the late William Wright Darden and Mildred Cutchin Darden and was predeceased by her first husband, James A. Nicholas. Annie Glenn was a graduate of Madison College (JMU) and was an active alumnae. She was a former teacher and a former co-owner of Darden Oil Company. She was a 64 year member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church where she was active in many church activities and especially enjoyed the choir. She had been active in the Franklin Literary Club, the Franklin Music Club, and the Franklin Lions Club. As wife of Dr. Darden W. Jones, longtime mayor of Franklin, she was interested in community affairs.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Glenda Nicholas Burke and her husband, Dr. Patrick Burke, of Richmond; her son, James A. “Jim” Nicholas, Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Flushing, NY; two step-sons, Darden W. “Watt” Jones of Norfolk and Edgar R. “Eddy” Jones and his wife, Linda, of Williamsburg; three grandchildren, Geoffrey Burke, Eugene Nicholas, and James Nicholas; and three great-grandchildren, Cassandra Nicholas, Lola Nicholas, and Alexandra Burke.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 am Friday at the Franklin Congregational Christian Church with the Rev, James H. Hyatt, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 pm at Wright Funeral Home. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
