Buckeyes, Jayhawks take home wins in week three

In week three of the City Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball Leagues, the Buckeyes and Jayhawks were winners in the Big 10/Big 12 Elementary Basketball League.

The Buckeyes (3-0) remained undefeated as they edged the Spartans (1-2) 15-13. The Buckeyes led 6-4 at halftime and were led in scoring by Shamon Reid with six points. Tydre Barnes and Naton Lee added five and four points for the Bucks. Masco Barrett led the Spartans with six points. Also scoring were Jaylen Lawson with three points, and Lynn Lawson and Greg Pope added two points each.

After leading 9-4 at halftime, the Jayhawks (2-1) held the Hawkeyes (0-3) to three second half points to post a 16-7 win. Dedreick Boone led the Jayhawks with seven points. He was followed by Derrell Williams with three points, Kobe Lawson, Larry Blow, and Keshawn Brown added two points each. Deonate Person led the Hawkeyes with six points. Darius Bell added one points.

In the ACC Junior High Basketball League, the Blue Devils and the Demon Deacons were winners in week three.

In the first game, the Tar Heels (2-1) edged the Tigers (2-1) 16-14. Keonte Ricks and Duncan Trotter had eight points each to lead the Tar Heels. George Mitronic and Javonte Baker led the Tigers with six and four points. Larry Blow and Lasalle Beale added two points each.

In the second game, the Demon Deacons beat the Blue Devils 37-29 behind Cameron Hines’ 15 points. He was followed by Xvarien Shearin with seven points, Adam Grant with six points, William Staten with four points and Darius Bell with two points. Jamal Tillery led the Blue Devils with 14 points, Natron Lee and Joseph Foster added six points each, and Dedrick Boone and Masco Barrett added two points each.

In the NBA High School Basketball League’s third week the Suns and the Hawks posted wins. The Hawks’ Malquan Mitchell and Travis Tinsley scored 11 points each as the Hawks (3-0) beat the Cavaliers (0-3). Other Hawks scoring were Ryan Petrasek with six points, Darrien Lankford with five points, DeRante Holmes with four points, Quonate Brown and Lasale Beale with three points each, and Kahlil Wiggins added two points.

Cameron Elder led the Cavs with six points. Also scoring were T.J. Hobbs with four points, Cameron Hines with three points and Christion Boone, Mitchell Gary and Tre Holland all had two points.

The Suns (2-1) downed the Spurs (1-2) 44-29 in the second game. The Suns were led by Marcus Stephens’ 12 points, and 11 points from Raymond Hunt. Adding to the scoring were Josh Walker with eight points, Shyron Everett with six points, Shawn Brook with three points, and Dominque Williams added two points.

Donte Brown led the Spurs with 12 points, followed by DeLango Grifin and Shanika Carter with seven points, DaShawn Barner with two points, and Linnard Butts added one points.
