Joan H. Harris
FRANKLIN —Joan Elaine Harris, 78, died January 13, 2010 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was born in Clinton, Iowa, a daughter of the late Hans and Bessie Nielsen Struve, and was predeceased by a sister, Jean Willis. She was a graduate of the University of Iowa and was retired from Southampton Memorial Hospital as the Director of Resident Services for the East Pavilion. She was a member and elder of the Franklin Presbyterian Church, as well as a longtime friend and volunteer of the Franklin Library.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, William Charles Harris; two sons, William C. Harris, Jr. (Betsy) of Holliston, MA and Jeffrey A. Harris (Eleanor) of Goochland; one daughter, Kathryn H, Padgett (Frank) of Suffolk; sister, Maurine Forest of Tipton, IA; seven grandchildren, Katharine Harris, Philip Harris, Sarah Harris, Ethan Harris, Emily Harris, Robert Clay Harris, and Patrick Neil Padgett; and three great-grandsons, Avery Padgett, Dalton Padgett, and Aidan Harris Ristey.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 am Saturday at the Franklin Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Fred McCall, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Friday at Wright Funeral Home and suggests memorials be made to the Franklin Presbyterian Church, 405 Lee Street, Franklin, VA. 23851. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
