Harrty W. Whitley
MURFREESBORO, N.C.—Harry Walton “Pete” Whitley, 92, died Jan. 8, 2010, at Guardian Care of Ahoskie, N.C.
He was born in Maney’s Neck, Como, N.C.
He was instrumental in the development of the historic district in Murfreesboro, having sought funding from his friends in the N.C. Legislature.
He served as president of the Murfreesboro Historical Association.
Among his survivors are his wife of 65 years, Lucille Woodard Whitley of the home; and son, Randolph W. Whitley and wife Cheryl of Murfreesboro.
A memorial service was held Sunday at Murfreesboro Baptist Church with the Revs. Lee Canipe and Thomas Caulkins officiating.
Garrett-Jones Funeral Home, Ahoskie, N.C., was in charge of arrangements.
