RICHMOND—Anna Davis Thweatt, 87, passed away January 10, 2010.
Anna retired in 1984 after teaching 29 years in the Southampton County, Lunenburg County, and Henrico County school systems.
Anna and her husband Jim returned to Courtland, Virginia in 1987 and became active in her home church, Courtland United Methodist Church.
Anna and Jim moved in 2001 to Lakewood Manor Retirement Community in Richmond.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James W. Thweatt, Sr.; son James W. Thweatt, Jr. (Sheila) of Salem, Virginia; daughter Sandra Thweatt Gouldin (Fred) of Richmond; six grandchildren, Jay Thweatt (Monica) of Cincinnati, Ohio; Brad Thweatt (Mary) of Richmond; Kristin Stone (Trevor) of Rockville, Maryland; Kemp Gouldin of Arlington; Meghan Gouldin of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Davis Gouldin of Charlottesville; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father Ezra W. Davis and mother Anna G. Davis, brothers Garland Davis, William Davis and Gillette Davis and sisters Mary Gilbert, Jane Colglazier, Virginia Watkinson and Betty Joyner.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010, at Courtland United Methodist Church with interment following at Riverside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service at the home of Karan and Mark Hodges, 26290 Tyler Court, Courtland, Virginia 23837.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the loving and caring staff of Lakewood Manor.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Courtland United Methodist Church, 22416 Main Street, Courtland, Virginia 23837 or to Walter Cecil Rawls Library and Museum, 22511 Main Street, Courtland, Virginia 23837.
