Isle of Wight schools were closed Friday due to icy road conditions in some areas, but staff members were required to report to work.

An emergency alert went out from the IW Alert system just after 7 a.m. that warned drivers to be cautious in icy road conditions throughout Isle of Wight County.

Southampton County schools delayed opening by two hours.
