Still waiting

As a business that deals with deadlines every day, we can’t help but notice that Gov. Tim Kaine missed an important one last week when he was supposed to have named the new Board of Directors of the Southeastern Public Service Authority.
Kaine still hasn’t announced the appointments. And the clock is ticking.
So far, state, local and SPSA officials have been mum about what is causing the delay. Under a law enacted last year, the governor was to review nominations from the eight SPSA localities from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15 and then appoint one nominee to the board and a second as an alternate member.
The new board was supposed to take over SPSA on Jan. 1. Today is Jan. 6. And Kaine will only be governor for a few more days; Bob McDonnell is to be inaugurated as the 71st governor of the Commonwealth on Jan. 16.
Hopefully, Kaine will make the appointments soon and the new board can get to work trying to solve SPSA’s myriad of problems.
