FRANKLIN—Parts of Western Tidewater could see up to 3 inches of snow, thanks to a storm that’s expected to hit the area later today and last until Saturday evening.

On Thursday, the National Weather Service in Wakefield issued a winter storm watch for Franklin and Southampton County, but it was canceled today and a winter weather advisory was issued.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.

A mix of rain and snow is expected to develop over the region late this afternoon, but become mainly rain overnight and early Saturday morning. A changeover to snow, mixed with sleet at times, is expected later Saturday morning and afternoon.

“At this time…1 to 3 inches of snow is expected before the precipitation ends early Sunday morning,” according to the NWS.
