Riverkeeper has idea for jobs creation

To the Editor:

Here is my idea for creating jobs and solving a couple more problems this area suffers from. Now, I don’t know if this is feasible or not. It’s an idea, OK?

Since we need electricity, jobs and a place to put our trash, how about this: Isle of Wight County, Southampton County and the City of Franklin should go in together and buy the power plant part of the mill. For fuel they burn trash collected from the municipalities and hire people from the area to collect, process the trash and run the power plant. They can then sell the electricity to Dominion or whoever and make money from the investment, taking care of the Southeaster Public Service Authority problem and, of course, putting a fair number of people to work.

Of course, air pollution controls will have to be in place, but I think the mill is already pretty good there. It’s just an idea from an environmental type. Get it?
