David P. Barrett
WAKEFIELD— David Paul Barrett, 86, a resident of Wakefield, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Born on August 1, 1923 in Southampton County, he was the son of David Salanthial and Daisy Britt Barrett.
He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Pattie Newton Barrett.
Paul attended Waverly United Methodist Church after the closing of Oak Grove UMC where he attended for several years. He was a hardworking man who was a loving husband and a devoted father.
He is survived by his son Douglas B. Barrett of Midlothian and his grandson, Christopher M. Barrett of Wakefield.
He was also predeceased by his son, David Paul Barrett, Jr.; his siblings. Lena Barrett Newton, George McCauly Barrett, and Eugene S. Barrett.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield with the Rev. Connie Gibbs-Morris officiating. Burial followed in the Wakefield Cemetery.
The family gathered with family and friends for a reception in the Wakefield United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests memorial donations be made to the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department, 155 Fleetwood Ave., Wakefield, VA 23888 or to the Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, VA 23890.
