FRANKLIN—Audrey Buchanan Powers, 92, died December 4, 2009 at East Pavilion. She was born in Norfolk, the daughter of the late Richard and Gladys Krough Buchanan and was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Robert Powers.
Mrs. Powers was a founding member of the Blackwater Artist League, a past Worthy Matron of the Franklin Chapter 128 O. E. S., and was a volunteer at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
She was a librarian for the Franklin Public Library and a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Audrey enjoyed life, golf, art, reading, traveling and computer games. In her seventies she graduated from Paul D. Camp Community College with an Associates Degree.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Powers Critzer (Michael) of Pinehurst, NC, and Susan Powers Vosters (James) of Stuart, FL; one son, Bob Powers (Susan) of Chesapeake; seven grandchildren, Elena Paige Wiersma, Robert Franklin Critzer, Brian Vosters, Mark Vosters, Doug Vosters, Jennifer Kane, and Megan Dosher; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor and Dani Wiersma, MacKenzie Vosters, Nora and Meara Kane, and Rowan and Larry Dosher; and one brother, Burwell Overton Buchanan of Kill Devil Hills, NC.
The funeral, with OES Rites, will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Buchholz officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 25280 New Market Road, Courtland, VA. 23837.
