To the Editor:
At a recent meeting of the St. Jude’s Council of the Knights of Columbus, Scott Earls, council trustee and chairman of the bingo committee, presented a check to Veronica F. Ferguson, director of Franklin Cooperative Ministry. The check for $715 represents a major portion of the proceeds generated from the Knights Bingo Nights which have been held at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Franklin for nine months.
Charity is the primary focus of the Knights of Columbus, and Franklin Cooperative Ministry was selected based on the ever-increasing needs of the Franklin community. Ferguson indicated that the Ministry food pantry provided 387 bags of groceries in 2008, and that they have provided more than 700 bags through October — an anticipated increase of more than 100 percent by year’s end.
The ministry was founded and is generously supported by churches, foundations, United Way, Scouts, civic groups and businesses. Their focus is on the needs of others in our community and making a difference in the quality of life for many as they are able. In addition to the food pantry, they maintain a clothing closet and furniture and appliances plus numerous other forms of assistance.
