WOODLAND, N.C.—Portia S. Edwards, 55, died Nov. 14, 2009, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, N.C.
A native of Hertford County, she worked at Perdue Inc. and was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, Woodland, where she was president of the Usher Ministry.
She received her two-year degree from Roanoke-Chowan Community College in Ahoskie.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Edwards of Woodland; a son, Charles Ali Edwards of Savannah, Ga.; three brothers, Ronald Kenneth Simmons of Newport News, Marvin Roosevelt Simmons Jr. of Ahoskie and Kevin Kent Simmons of Ahoskie; five sisters, Crystal Simmons James of Fredericksburg, Patricia Simmons Rush of Greensboro, N.C., Marva Monique Simmons of Ahoskie, Vanessa Simmons Harris of Murfreesboro, N.C. and Carla Simmons Hall of Ahoskie.
A funeral service was be held Saturday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Woodland, with the Rev. Eddie Vinson officiating.
Burial took place in the church cemetery.
Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Rich Square, N.C., is handling arrangements.
