Edward J. Spivey Sr.
SUFFOLK—Edward Jackson Spivey Sr., 81, died Nov. 20, 2009, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
A native of Gates County, N.C., he was a son of the late Lowery Jackson and Fannie Stallings Spivey, and was predeceased by a sister, Lessie Winslow and a brother, Spurgeon Spivey.
Mr. Spivey was retired as an electrician from Union Camp after 35 years service, operated Spivey’s Radio and TV, and most recently was a delivery driver for Sheet Metal Products.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion and a member and deacon of South Quay Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Faye Bunch Spivey; five daughters, Judy Long (Sid), Shirley Coburn (Michael), Linda Brown (James), Jackie Beale (Bob), Rita Umphlett (Joey); two sons, Michael Spivey (Dale) and Edward Spivey Jr. (Donna); one sister, Iris Whitley; one brother, Lloyd Spivey (Jean); 19 grandchildren, Chad Ward, Shannon Ward, Sidney Long III, Danny Wayne Sumpter, Tracy Edwards, Michael Coburn II, James Brown Jr., Joe Brown, Adam Derby, Erica Beale, Sarah Beale, Robert John Umphlett, LeAnna Umphlett, Randy Umphlett, Leslee Jo Umphlett, Chelsea Spivey, Chavis Spivey, Shyanne Spivey, and Jackson Spivey; and six great-grandchildren, Brandon Ward, Keira Doss, Ethan Sumpter, Nickolas Sumpter, Julie Williamson, and Alexis Grace Mulder.
The funeral was conducted Tuesday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev, John Watson officiating.
Interment, with military honors, followed in Southampton Memorial Park.
