Adam Gillette’s impressive 35-yard touchdown catch in traffic got Hampden-Sydney College off and rolling last weekend in a 34-27 victory over rival Randolph-Macon to cap an undefeated regular season.

Gillette, a 6-foot-6, 205-pound wide receiver and the son of Franklin residents Walker and Becky Gillette, snagged four passes for 71 yards as the Tigers clinched the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title for a third consecutive year.

For the season, Gillette is tied for fourth on the team with 32 receptions. He averages a team-high 16.6 yards per catch and has scored two touchdowns.

The former Nansemond-Suffolk Academy standout had 45 catches as a junior and scored seven touchdowns. For his career, he has 78 catches.

Hampden-Sydney (10-0 overall, 6-0 in the ODAC) was scheduled to face the Centennial Conference champion Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (8-2, 7-1) in the NCAA Division III Football Championship first round this weekend. It is the second time in school history that Hampden-Sydney has hosted an NCAA playoff game.
