Hawks win first CIAA game

MURFREESBORO, N.C.—The Chowan University Hawks, playing their first CIAA basketball game after entering that conference, pulled off a 85–79 victory Monday in the Helms Center on the campus of Chowan University against the Trojans of Virginia State University.
Only being down 49–43 at the half, the Hawks continued to make a run at the Trojans.
After the match was tied for the sixth time, with the score 64 all and 9:52 left in the game, Charles Rhodes dropped a 3-pointer to put the Hawks up for the remainder of the game.
The Hawks had four players in double figures — Nate Walchuk and Charles Rhodes with 18 points each, Jaleel Nelson with 17 points and Lando Morrison with 14 points.
The Lady Trojans won 69–64.
