MILWAUKEE, N.C.— Bealie Jesse Martin Jr., 90, died Nov. 13, 2009, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie after a lengthy illness.
He had been preceded in death by his parents, Bealie Martin Sr. and Madie Allen Martin; and one brother, Stanley Martin.
Mr. Martin was a native of Northampton County and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who retired from the Northampton County ASCS Office after 27 years of service and, then, worked with the Federal Crop Insurance Program for several years.
He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, serving as Secretary of Sunday School for 66 years and was a 32nd Degree Master Mason in Pendleton Masonic Lodge No. 418.
An avid Rook player and member of the Old Tavern Rook Club, he enjoyed reading and had been a member of the Milwaukee Lions Club.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Viola DeBerry Martin of their home near Milwaukee; one daughter, Brenda Martin Daughtry and husband James of New Bern, N.C.; one son, Wallace Martin and wife Linda of Collierville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Lisa Daughtry-Weiss and husband Daniel of Cheverly, Md. and Brittany Martin of Flowood, Miss.; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Sophia Daughtry-Weiss of Cheverly; four sisters, Cleo White of Seaboard, N.C., Janet Hill of Murfreesboro, N.C., Maudie Leigh McClain of Greensboro, N.C. and Jewel Britt of Milwaukee; two brothers, Bruce Martin and Bobby Martin of Milwaukee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services was held Tuesday at Bethany United Methodist Church in Milwaukee with the Rev. Ed Drew presiding.
Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the Milwaukee Cemetery.
