Citizens need to step forward

To the Editor:

Our election victory on Nov. 3 shows to the nation that our country is resisting this push toward a socialist way of life and will not go willingly down a path that leads us away from our moral center.

When faced with an infestation of special interests, lobbyists and corrupt agencies like ACORN or the SEIU, our community recognizes that to be beholden to the whims of organized groups is to abdicate our own freedoms and rights. Once those freedoms are surrendered, an oppressive power takes hold that forever alters the wishes of that precious document signed by 56 brave men on July 4, 1776.

It is only when we exercise our rights, that we act in preservation of them. To give up, to accept the perceived inevitable, is to accept defeat and relinquish our right to liberty, happiness and freedom. In the words of our finest president, George Washington, “Government is not reason. It is not eloquent. It is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”

We need more public servants to step forward; common citizens who care about their community and wish to better it. As we do this, we can rid our system of opportunists who merely wish to advance themselves at the expense of everyone else. We need to set ourselves free of so-called “independent” candidates who are really hoping you don’t see their true nature and leanings.

Who next will step forward in the spirit of our founding fathers? Will you?
