Mary V. Pruette
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Mary Virginia Price Pruette died Nov. 4, 2009.
She was born on Oct. 5, 1923, in Mount Olive, N.C., the daughter of Jennings Price and Maria McPhail Price.
After graduating from Mount Olive High School and Greensboro College she taught in the public elementary schools of North Carolina for 20 years.
She met her husband, Rowland S. Pruette, during the summer of 1942 at Wake Forest College and married him one year later on Sept. 11, 1943.
They spent most of their married life in Murfreesboro, N.C., where she taught school and he was the pastor of Murfreesboro Baptist Church and a professor of religion at Chowan College.
In 1998 they moved to Winston-Salem to Brookridge Retirement Community, where they spent many happy and fulfilling years.
They were members of First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rowland Shaw Pruette and her sister Josephine Price Bundy.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law David and Sandy Pruette of Farmville, N.C., her daughter and son-in law Mary Beth and Bob Parker of Winston-Salem; her grandchildren, Anne and Rhett Butler of Raleigh, N.C., Spencer and Mary Claire Parker of Roanoke, Austin Parker of Wilmington, N.C., Maria Pruette of Farmville; and her great-granddaughters Mary Cecilia Parker and Margaret Virginia Parker of Roanoke; her sisters-in law Peggy Pruette Mangum of Faison, N.C. and Peggy Hardison Pruette of Raleigh.
A memorial service was held at Murfreesboro Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, Saturday.
The burial preceded the service at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro.
