Jerry E. Ward
POQUOSON—Jerry Ellsworth Ward, 73, a native of Fairfield, N.C., and resident of the Peninsula for more than 60 years, died Nov. 6, 2009.
Mr. Ward was a graduate of Windsor High School. He served in the United States Air Force, and retired after 38 years from Newport News Shipbuilding.
After retiring, he found enjoyment working for Hall Acura of Newport News. He had four passions in his life: his beloved wife, Judy, his family, his music, and finally his love of automobiles.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Kitchen Ward; parents, Lester E. and Sara E. Ward; stepfather, Richard Cooper; and brother, Murray Ward.
Survivors include four children, Jerry E. “Jay” Ward Jr. and wife MaryRose, Robert W. Kitchen and wife Lisa, Shari Kitchen Rucker and husband Rick, and Rodney V. Kitchen; three grandchildren, Marinda Kitchen, Jerry E. “Trey” Ward III and Amber Bowen; stepmother, Edna Cooper; sister-in-law, Katherine Ward; two nieces, Mary Charles Pawlikowski and husband Rick, and Betsy Ward; and extended family which he dearly loved.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, and at other times at 132 Villa Drive, Poquoson.
A celebration of life service was held Monday, in the funeral home chapel by Pastor John Paul Basham.
Burial followed at Veterans Memorial Gardens, Hampton with military honors.
