Oneal R. Rutledge
HAMPTON— Oneal R. Rutledge, 81, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009.
She was born March 3, 1928, in Sussex County, to the late Sylvanious Roberts and Annie Jones Roberts in Sussex County. She attended public school in Wakefield. She was a missionary Evangelist under the late Elder Samuel Barrett.
Mrs. Rutledge later relocated to Newport News and became a member of Walters Temple AME in the 50s.
Survivors include loving husband, Arthur R. Rutledge; one son, Arthur R. Rutledge III; her sister, Queen E. Thomas; grandchildren, Renee Mason Rutledge Miller, Alonzo Bennett, Wesley Bennett and Casondra Bennett; great-grandchildren; a special niece, Virginia Sanders; two special friends, Rena Carr and Belinda Washington; special friends, Walter Chandler, Richard Thomas and Larry Scott; and a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A homegoing service was held Monday at Greater Walters AME Zion, Newport News.
Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Williamsburg. Condolences may be sent to www.cookebros.com.
