Good for Forbes, us

While many politicians might take advantage of the Franklin mill closure for political posturing — especially during an election cycle — Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., has set himself apart.

Forbes responded immediately to the terrible news with a heartfelt and sincere open letter to residents.

“I want you to know that as your federal representative I will be there to support you and will use the tools at my disposal to assist the individuals, families, businesses and the overall community impacted by this news,” he said.

So far, he’s been living up to his word. Forbes announced the creation of a new Web page — http://forbes.house.gov/IPresources/— that will help displaced workers with everything from financial assistance to job hunting.

It’s a great first step and we appreciate it.
