WILLIAMSBURG—Joseph R. Dill died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born Sept. 14, 1946, in Kankakee, Ill.
Mr. Dill was preceded in death by his parents, Velida and Raymond Dill.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Dill; sons, Jason (Annalisa), Travis (Nicole); and his daughter, Ashley; his two beautiful grandchildren, Isabella and his namesake, Joseph Dill, who brought “Pappa Joe” much enjoyment and pleasure; his sister, Marjorie Baker (David) of Franklin; his brother, Richard (Pat) Dill from Florence, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He retired from the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown in 2006, after 42 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was the Safety Director of the Peninsula Safety Department. After retirement he worked as the Operations Manager at Cruz Associates, Inc. until he became ill.
He never met a stranger. His outgoing personality made him a friend to many.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sentara Hospice of Williamsburg, 1100 Professional Drive, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel, with interment following at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
