James W. Joyner
FRANKLIN—James William Joyner, 81, died Oct. 26, 2009, at his home.
A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late Billy and Essie Blythe Joyner and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Joyner was retired from International Paper Co. and enjoyed his yard, his garden and fishing with his friend, Cecilia Burgess.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Iola “Dick” Joyner; two daughters, Deborah Watson (George) of Mebane, N.C. and Cindy Gillette (Bill) of Capron; a son, Edward Joyner (Beverly) of Rocky Mount, N.C.; four grandsons, Matthew Gillette (Megan) and Jacob Gillette, both of Capron and Jason and Joshua Joyner of Rocky Mount; a brother, Sherman Joyner (Jean) of Courtland; a host of nieces and nephews and special friends, Kathy and Edwin Brittle and Cecilia and Earl Burgess.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hunterdale Christian Church with the Rev. Don Rosie officiating.
Interment will follow in Capron Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 22203 Sedley Road and suggests memorials be made to the Hunterdale Christian Church Organ Fund, 741 Hunterdale Rd., Franklin, VA 23851.
