FRANKLIN—Despite rumors to the contrary, a Farm Fresh official said Tuesday that the grocer has no plans to pull up stakes from Franklin.

“We are not closing the Franklin store,” said Susan Mayo, vice president of consumer affairs and public relations for the Virginia Beach-based grocer, which opened a Franklin store in spring 2008.

Mayo said Farm Fresh representatives will attend tonight’s meeting involving officials from Franklin, Southampton County, Isle of Wight County and Gates County, N.C.

“We will answer questions there, if needed,” she said.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Workforce Development Center at Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin.

It is open to the public.
