Westley J. Porter II
HYATTSVILLE, Md.—Westley James Porter II died Oct. 18, 2009, after courageous battle with illness.
Mr. Porter was the oldest son of the late Westley James and Ruth Mae Porter.
He was born Feb. 2, 1953 in Zuni, at home with the assistance of mid-wife, Aunt Mary Johnson.
Survivors include his son, Westley James Porter III of Nashville, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Latoya Carter of Nashville; a brother, Willie L. Porter (Joyce) of Hampton; aunts, Emily L. Washington, Jerlene Jordan, Senora Porter and Josephine Burch; uncle, Thomas F. Porter; nephews, Jamaal Brian Whitehurst and Trevor A. Richardson; niece, Tia L. Porter; a host of cousins and friends.
Mr. Porter attended Georgie Tyler Elementary School in Windsor and graduated, with honors, from Windsor High School.
After high school he attended and graduated from Virginia Union University with a B.S. degree in biology.
He went on to pursue a medical degree at Meharry Medical College. After three years he enlisted and was commissioned as an officer into the U.S. Army.
A memorial service was to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Jones Grove Baptist Church, Windsor.
