Guy P. Rountree Jr.
NEWSOMS—Guy Pope “Buddy” Rountree Jr., 64, died Oct. 20, 2009, from injuries sustained in a farming accident.
He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was the son of the late Guy Pope and Elizabeth Worrell Rountree. He was also predeceased by a sister, Rebecca R. Dubrowsky and a granddaughter, Mallory E. Wright. Buddy was a longtime farmer, and along with his son, operated Rountree Farms.
He was a member of the Newsoms Town Council, Newsoms Hunt Club, National Wild Turkey Federation, and a former coach for the Newsoms Athletic Association. Buddy was a lifelong member of Newsoms United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Sandra Ellis Rountree; his daughter, Laura R. Wright (Ricky); his son, Brian P. Rountree (Holly), all of Newsoms; and four grandchildren, Mason and Madison Wright, and Taylor and Hunter Rountree.
The funeral will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Newsoms United Methodist Church with the Revs. Darwin Edwards and Kenneth Williams officiating.
Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.
