NEWPORT NEWS—Robert L. Faison Jr., Oct. 16, 2009.
He was born Jan. 15, 1921, to Robert L. Faison Sr. and Mae Dillard Faison in Wakefield.
Mr. Faison was raised in the Wakefield area and went to work in the Fitters Dept. as an apprentice in the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company.
He served in WWII on the Sea Plane Tender USS Rockaway.
His service included the invasion of Normandy. After the War, he went back to work in the Shipyard in the Electrical Dept.
In 1956, he went to Idaho Falls, Idaho to work on the A1W Project helping with the design of the electrical systems for the Nuclear Reactors on the USS Enterprise for two years. He retired from the Production Engineering Dept. in 1984.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Branch Faison; and nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda F. Forbes (Andrew), Newport News and Tamara F. Alderman (Larry), Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Robert L. Faison III (Nancy) Battery Park, Anthony B. Faison (Phyllis), Newport News; four grandchildren, Robert W. Guthrie, Austin, Texas, Cynthia Kiefer, Richmond, Sarah E. Faison, Battery Park and Rachel J. Faison, Hampton; and four great-grandchildren, Grace and William Guthrie, Austin and Kasey and Cameron Kiefer, Richmond.
Mr. Faison loved to hunt and fish and was an early member of the Wakefield Community Hunt Club and later a charter member and director of the Homeville Hunt Club in Sussex County.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers at Northampton Convalescent Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wes Taylor officiating.
Interment was in Ivor Cemetery, Ivor.
Peninsula Funeral Home handled arrangements.
