Horace Turner
WAVERLY—Horace Turner, died Oct. 10, 2009, at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond.
Horace Turner was born on Aug. 14, 1939, in Homeville, to the late John Horace Turner and Minnie Jane Turner.
He received his education through Sussex County Training School.
He was employed at Pope’s Grocery Store, Vandor, and Gwaltney for many years until his health failed. Horace joined First Baptist Church, Waverly, many years ago and served faithful as an usher until his decline in health.
Horace is preceded in death by his son, Ricky Garrett; a daughter, Catrena Neal; three brothers, James Earl Turner, MacArthur Turner and Willie Turner.
Survivors include a devoted wife, Britton Turner of Waverly; two stepdaughters, Brittany Hamlin and Tamekia Hamlin, both of Jarratt; a daughter-in-law, Tina Garrett; two grandsons, Perrion Neal of Waverly and Rayquan Stith; and one granddaughter, Iyonnie Allen, all of Richmond; his loving mother, Minnie Turner of Waverly; seven brothers, Leroy Turner, Leslie Turner, Edward Turner (Yvonne), Linwood Turner (Lucy), Joseph Turner, all of Waverly, Wilbert Turner (Sheila) of Richmond and Ernest Turner of Waverly; one sister, Adrienne Turner of Waverly; a host of nephews and nieces; cousins; extended family (Wilkins); and a best friend, Glen Grammer (Paige).
A funeral service was conducted Saturday at First Baptist Church, Waverly, with Pastor Samuel Robinson eulogizing.
The interment was in the church cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.
