Franklin police are searching for two men who forced their way into an elderly couple’s home Sunday night and tried to rob them.

Lt. Tim Whitt said two men knocked on a door in the 100 block of Crescent Drive at about 9:30 p.m.

“The female resident went to the door and two males busted in with handguns,” Whitt said.

“A struggle ensued and her husband came to her assistance and grabbed the suspect’s gun. She then beat the suspect with a cane.”

Whitt said a panic alarm was activated and the men ran off.

The husband received a cut on his hand during the struggle.

State troopers and officers combed the woods behind Forest Pines Apartments Monday afternoon.
