Walter L. Fender Sr.
SUFFOLK—Walter Lawrence Fender Sr., 65, died Oct. 13, 2009.
He was born in Lumberton, N.C., the son of the late Hattie Waters Fender and Lennie Fender Sr.
He was a superintendent for W3 Marine.
Mr. Fender was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Western Branch Bowling League.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Erma Delores Gurganious Fender of Suffolk; daughter, Hattie Maria Fender Day and husband, Lorne of Oakdale, Conn.; sons, Walter Lawrence Fender Jr. of Jarratt and John J. Fender and wife Maureen of Chesapeake; foster children, Robbie Lee Griswold and husband Richard of Windsor, Minnie Spivey and husband Jerry of Leland, N.C.; grandchildren, Mark, Heather, Justin, Walter III, Logan, Laura, Jimmie, Charlotte, Raymond, and Marsha; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Woodcock of Wilmington, N.C. and Peggy Meeks of Currie, N.C.; and brother, Charles Fender of Virginia.
A celebration of life service will be held today at 6 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, Suffolk, with the Rev. David Blevins officiating.
Friends may also join the family following the service at the funeral home for a time of visitation and other times at the residence.
