Bruce W. Whichard Sr.
GATESVILLE, N.C.—Bruce Wayne Whichard Sr., 74, died Oct. 9, 2009, in Winslow Memorial Home, Elizabeth City, N.C.
Mr. Whichard was born in Martin County, N.C., and was the son of the late Paul Palmer and Ella Mae Hoell Whichard.
A retired electrician and maintenance department employee of Carolina Aluminum in Winton, N.C., he served in the Virginia National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, G.D. Whichard.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Shirley Morgan Whichard; two daughters, Cheryl Ricks and husband Roy of Newsoms and Janet Eure and husband Donnie of Gatesville; two sons, Bruce W. Whichard Jr. of Eure, N.C. and Brian Keith Whichard and wife Cyndi of Greer, S.C.; a sister, Shirley Simmons of Norfolk; two brothers, Robert Whichard of Chesapeake and Ervin Whichard of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Monday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home,Gatesville, by the Rev. Timmy Whichard.
Burial followed in the family plot at Eure Christian Church Cemetery.
