Reader sympathizes with landowners

To the Editor:

Although I am not a landowner, I take offense to “knowitall” (Short Shots, Oct. 2) who implied that those who are trying to protect their land do not appreciate our military and the fact that they serve our country.

That “little piece of land” he speaks of represents many years of blood, sweat and tears. Many of these owners themselves have spent time serving our country. They spend long days maintaining land that has been in their family since before they were born. They love their work as much as any Navy aviator loves theirs.

Obviously “knowitall” does not. Perhaps he should take a day from flying and spend it on one of the “little pieces of land” and see for himself why these owners are so protective.
