WAVERLY—Patricia G. West, 72, died Oct. 5, 2009.
Born on Feb. 15, 1937, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Thelma Gwaltney Gast.
She was the widow of James F. West Sr.
Mrs. West was a member of Waverly Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, including the Alpha Chapter 1, OES, Petersburg, and the Waverly Chapter 172, OES (charter member and past Worthy Matron).
She was also a member of the Thomas Rolfe Chapter Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. Pat was a former member of the Waverly Woman’s Club.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Spencer Brothers in Waverly for 17 years and also worked as a bookkeeper at Glenn’s Automotive and at Claremont Manor.
Survivors include her son, James F. West Jr. of Waverly; a grandson, R. Brian Denny and wife Kimberly of Hopewell; a sister, Linda G. Smith and husband Richard of Pasadena, Md.; a brother, Kenneth Gast and wife Karen of Pasadena; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield with the Rev. Keith Whitfield officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
There will be an Eastern Star memorial service during the visitation today beginning at 7 p.m.
