FRANKLIN—A Franklin teen faces weapons charges stemming from an incident Friday morning on Barrett Street.

Police say that they received a call at about 7:30a.m. about a juvenile riding a bicycle and brandishing a pistol.

Officers located the 16-year-old suspect behind Birdsong Peanut Co. and confronted him.

The suspect put his hands under his shirt as if he were reaching for something and refused to follow officers’ directions, according to a press release from Franklin police Lt. Tim Whitt.

After officers got the suspect on the ground and handcuffed, a .25 caliber pistol was found in his possession.

The suspect was charged with brandishing a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

The teen, who lives in Dorchester Square Apartments, will be detained at Tidewater Detention Home until Monday, when he is scheduled to appear in court.
