Lizzie P. Land
PORTSMOUTH—Lizzie P. Land, 86, died Sept. 28, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born to the late Henry and Ella Johnson and was the widow of the late Joseph J. Land.
Mrs. Land was a member of Third Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was employed at Portsmouth General Hospital for more than 25 years.
Survivors include her five daughters, Ella Outland (Richard), Loretta Loveless, Deborah Brown (Ray) and Patricia Sheppard, all of Portsmouth, and Hope Ward (Nathaniel) of Chesapeake; two adopted daughters, Meloney Urquhart (Herbert) of Franklin and Cassandra Miller (Barry) of Sicklerville, N.J.; one son, Ronald Sheppard of Waverly; three brothers, Randolph Johnson (Maxine) of Gurdon, Ark., Rudolph Johnson (Ida) of Elizabeth City, N.C. and William Earl Johnson of Durham, N.C.; one sister, Bessie Gatling of Portsmouth; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held today at noon in Third Baptist Church with Pastor Joe B. Fleming presiding.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
