VIRGINIA BEACH—Jack Allen Bailey, 77, died Sept. 28, 2009.
Mr. Bailey resided in Virginia Beach since 1958.
He was born in Southampton County and was the son of the late Charlie Bailey and Novella Clark Bailey Frost.
He attended schools in Ivor and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1950.
He was also a Baptist. He retired in 1990 as a director in the Metrology Engineering Division, Naval Standards Lab, Naval Air Rework Facility, Norfolk, with 32 years of government service.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Joe Calvin Bailey and Julian Bailey.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Barbara Joyner Bailey; his daughter, Brenda Bailey Clark; and a grandson, William Colin Clark; his nieces, Connie Bailey Carr and Jo Ann Bailey Fentress; nephews, Karlus Bailey, Michael Bailey and Jeff Bailey; and great-nieces and -nephews.
He served in the U.S. Navy on active duty during the Korean War from February 1951 to February 1955.
He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1958.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m.
