Franklin suffers first loss of season

WEST POINT-Leading by just 7 points, West Point scored two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter to down Franklin 44-20 in a battle of unbeatens Thursday night.
With the score 27-20, the Pointers capitalized on two Franklin turnovers – a fumble and an interception – late in the game to score two touchdowns in the final two minutes of the contest.
Franklin never led in the game but stayed close until the end. In the first quarter, the Broncos cut the West Point lead to 7-6 when Lavon Evans ran 25 yards for a touchdown.
In the second quarter, the Broncos cut the Pointers’ lead to 14-12 when Melquan Mitchell ran 30 yards for a touchdown.
In the fourth quarter, Evans ran for another touchdown, this time from 10 yards out, and Davel Newsome run in the 2-point conversion to drop the West Point lead to 27-20.
For Franklin, Mitchell rushed for 82 yards, Martinez Hill ran for 75 yards, and Evans added 54 yards on the ground.
The Broncos (4-1) rolled up 237 yards on the ground, but West Point rushed for 377 yards.
Franklin quarterback Trey Kigler was 1-for-6 through the air and threw three interceptions.
The Broncos host King & Queen next Friday at 7 p.m. for homecoming.
