CAPE CHARLES- Windsor’s offensive attack was too much for Northampton as the Dukes crowned the Yellow Jackets 38-8 in a non-district football game Friday night.
Windsor’s R.J. Edwards rushed for 124 yards on 20 carries and Layfette Murphy picked up 124 yards on 8 carries to lead the offense.
The Dukes (2-2) opened the scoring with 6:48 left in the first quarter on a 6-yard run by Edwards. Jacob Moseley faked the extra point and ran for the 2-point conversion.
With no time left on the clock at the end of the first quarter, the Dukes scored again when Edwards rushed 9 yards for the touchdown. He also ran in the 2-point conversion for a 16-0 lead.
With 5:08 left in the half, Windsor’s Murphy rambled 29 yards for a touchdown. Murphy hit Austin Winkles with a pass for the 2-point conversion and a 24-0 lead.
In the third quarter, Mark Fenner rushed 3 yards for a touchdown with 2:43 to play in the period. Moseley’s PAT kick made it 31-0.
With 10 seconds to play in the third quarter, C.J. Little picked up a fumble and ran 60 yards for a touchdown. Moseley’s extra point made it 36-0 and the game was played with a running clock the rest of the way.
Northampton scored its lone touchdown with 3:49 left in the game on a muffed Windsor snap.
“We played well, but we’ve got to cut down on the mistakes,” said Windsor head coach Chuck Parrish. “It was a good win for us.”
