A Franklin businessman was killed in a single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning in Suffolk.

John Keith Vann, 36, owner of Vann’s Barbecue and Catering, died at the scene after his vehicle ran off the road at Wildwood Drive and Gates Road, hit an embankment and rolled several times, ejecting him, according to Suffolk spokesperson Diana L. Klink.

The accident occurred at about 1 a.m.

Vann is survived by his parents, Earl and Renea Vann of Franklin; a daughter, Barrett Ann McIver of Lexington, S.C.; a sister, Melanie V. Sadler of Chesterfield; maternal grandmother, Norma Alphin of Carrsville; and paternal grandmother, Mildred B. Vann of Murfreesboro, N.C.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Ruffin Alphin officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Klink said Saturday afternoon that an investigation into the cause of the accident continued.
