Franklin stays undefeated with road win

SALUDA-Trailing 10-0 in the first quarter, Franklin rallied for 18 points in the second quarter, including 12 in the final minute, to down Middlesex 36-16 in a non-district football game Friday night.

Middlesex opened the scoring with a safety at 10:49 of the first quarter and opened up a 10-0 lead a minute later when Craig Conley ran in a 4-yard touchdown and Tayvon Moring ran in the 2-point conversion.

Franklin took over the game from there. With 4:05 to play in the first quarter Dontray Hunter scored on a 3-yard run to cut the Middlesex lead to 10-6.

The Broncos (4-0) took the lead for good a minute later when Lavon Evans scored on a 1-yard run to put Franklin up 12-10.

With 50 seconds left in the half, Evans again ran it in from 1 yard out to put the Broncos up 18-10.

Franklin recovered a fumble and scored again with 18 seconds left in the half when Trey Kigler connected on a 16-yard pass to Shaquan Cook for a 24-10 lead.

Franklin kept up the offensive attack in the third quarter. With 5:52 to play in the period, Davell Newsome scored on a 5-yard run to put Franklin up 30-10. Martinez Hill scored Franklin’s final touchdown with 10:58 to play in the game on a 1-yard run.

The Broncos had 254 yards of total offense. Hill led the rushing attack with 80 yards and Melquan Mitchell added 75 yards.

Franklin plays at West Point Thursday night.
