HACKENSACK, N.J.—James Clayton Benn Jr. died Sept. 21, 2009, while a patient in Hackensack University Hospital.
The Southampton County native was born Feb. 9, 1952 to James C. Benn Sr. and Annie Maude Hicks Benn.
“Clay,” as he was lovingly called was a former member of First Baptist Church, Burdette and St. Mary Holiness Church in Sedley.
He attended the Southampton County Public Schools, graduating from Riverview High School in 1970.
Mr. Benn was employed by Hawthorne Chevrolet in Hawthorne, N.J., where he was recognized by his colleagues as “Salesman of the Year.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary E. Benn.
Survivors include one sister, Theresa A. Kelly (Percell) of Alexandria; one aunt, Christine Turner (Walter); one uncle, Lawrence Hicks (Betty); one nephew, Bryan T. Kelly; one niece, Tiffany S. Kelly; cousins and many other relatives.
A homegoing celebration will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Burdette, with the Rev. Charles Pittman delivering the eulogy.
