Joe H. Gray
HOPEWELL—Joe H. Gray died Sept. 19, 2009.
He was born Aug. 15, 1939, in Southampton County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gray.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles, and three sisters, Page, Alice and Louise. He was a member of Reaping The Harvest Outreach Ministry.
Mr. Gray enjoyed logging, fishing and hunting. In 1965, he met and later married the former Miss Eunice LaVearn Pretlow (Peaches).
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Evangelist Eunice Pretlow Gray of Hopewell; five sons, Brian Gray Sr. of Petersburg, Anthony Gray of Hopewell, Henry Gray (Linda) of Waverly, Kenneth Tonkins, Earl Johnson (Denise) of Wakefield; four granddaughters, Breyanta, Brittenay, Ursula and Niesha; four grandsons, Brian Jr. (devoted), Derrell, Brandon and Lamont; two stepchildren, Bobbie Jones (Vince) of Smithfield and Allen Tonkins of Wakefield; three sisters, Thelma Bain, Lora Bailey (Herbert), Dorothy Gay (Fred) of Wakefield; one brother, Robert Gray (Sandra) of Stone Mountain, Ga.; one uncle, Samuel Hillard; two sisters-in-law, Joan McDaniel (Charles) of Dendron and Linda Gray of Wakefield; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rose of Sharon Church, Waverly, with Bishop David Slaughter officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by Bishop Marvin L. Drew. Bishop Tyrone Harper is the pastor.
Interment will be in Waverly Cemetery.
The remains will lie in repose at the church from 11:45 a.m. until the hour of service.
Relatives and friends will assemble at 11:30 a.m. at the residence, 2400 Oaklawn Blvd., Lot 27, Hopewell.
