H. Michael Yates
FRANKLIN—Michael Yates, 60, born in Charlotte, N.C., died Sept. 17, 2009.
He was raised in Norfolk and graduated from Norview High School in 1967.
Mr. Yates previously was a principal at Azalea Garden Christian Academy and Rock Church Academy.
He retired from Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association as a chief engineer in the U.S. Merchant Marines.
In the last years of his life he lived in Franklin, where he was employed at Wal-Mart and made many loving friends.
He was predeceased by his father, William B. Yates; mother, Helen G. Yates; and sister, Virginia Yates.
Survivors include his loving children, Peter M. Yates, Virginia A. Kent and husband Jeremy, Brett M. Yates and wife Lindsay, Michael B.G. Yates and Jessica M. Yates; loving sister, Susan Y. Walter; brother, William G. Yates; 10 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service in his honor conducted by Pastor Chuck Worth at the True Word Christian Church at 1315 Carrsville Highway in Franklin Tuesday at 7 p.m.
