FRANKLIN—Franklin police arrested an alleged gun-wielding suspect after a short foot chase early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the Huddle House on Armory Drive just before 4 a.m. after they were alerted that a man was waving a gun in the parking lot.

Officers said they observed Rasheed Ahmad Brown, 20, of the 300 block of Hogart Street in Franklin, holding something under his shirt.

The officers ordered Brown to show his hands and get on the ground, but he refused, according to a press release issued by Franklin Police Lt. Tim Whitt.

Brown then fled on foot and officers chased him across a field between Huddle House and Farm Fresh. He was taken into custody in the Farm Fresh parking lot.

After taking Brown into custody, officers retraced his path to a ditch where he fell during the pursuit and recovered a loaded .45 caliber machine pistol, Whitt said.

Brown was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, brandishing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and obstruction of justice. He was remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.

Brown is also under investigation by Suffolk police for weapons violations, Whitt said.
