SUFFOLK—Virgie Mae Griffin Winborne died Sept. 15, 2009, while a patient in Obici Hospital.
On Aug. 10, 1916, she was born to Allen and Effie Bradshaw Griffin.
The Southampton County native was a member of Capernaum Seventh Day Adventist Church in Suffolk, where she was a deaconess and the mother of the church.
Mrs. Winborne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, the Rev. John Henry Winborne, two sons, John Henry Winborne, Robert Winborne, her siblings, Ada Warren, Thelma Holloman, Corine Wilson, Victoria Candis, George Griffin, Frank Griffin and William Griffin.
Survivors include two daughters, Gracie Ferbee of Chesapeake and Mary Elizabeth Brown (Askew) of Windsor; one son, William “Wallace” Winborne of the home; one sister, Mary Louson of Norfolk; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, one sister-in-law, Linia Griffin of Spring Grove and many other relatives.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Franklin Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2102 South St., Franklin, with Pastor Michael Dyson delivering the message.
On the day of service, her remains will be placed in church for viewing by 1 p.m.
