Raiders to face formidable foe

This Friday’s game of the week involves an important contest between Virginia Commonwealth Conference teams. In a homecoming tussle, Southampton Academy (3-0) will host Fuqua School (3-0) with a 6 p.m. kickoff.

Fuqua has opened the season with three wins on the road and Friday night’s game wil mark its fourth straight road game.

The Falcons beat Fishburne Military Academy 38-33 last Friday.

Fuqua has also defeated Kenston Forest and Brunswick Academy, two teams that the Raiders have beaten.

The Raiders have been playing well on both sides of the ball.

The SA defense held Kenston Forest to just 77 yards of total offense last Friday.

For Fuqua to have a chance, it will have to stop SA’s running game with three backs that are productive. David Bogese rushed for 106 yards, John Hinkle ran for 81 yards, and Jacob Rose added 71 yards.

“Next week will really test our defense. Fuqua may not have the size that Kenston Forest has, but they have a lot of speed.

Their quarterback is just as much of a threat running the ball as he is passing the ball,” Dale Marks, Southampton Academy head coach, said Friday night.

Other action this week includes:

Southampton (0-2) hosts Windsor (1-1) at 7:30 p.m. in a non-district tilt.

Franklin (2-0) hosts Mathews (1-1) from the Tidewater District at 7 p.m. Mathews beat Amelia County 17-13 in week one and lost to Middlesex 46-28 last Friday.

Isle of Wight Academy (3-0) plays at Kenston Forest (0-3) at 7:30 p.m. in a Virginia Commonwealth Conference matchup.

The Kavaliers have lost to Blessed Sacrament Huguenot, Fuqua School, and Southampton Academy.

Tidewater Academy travels to Fredericksburg Christian for a 2 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.
