Jesse L. Gray Sr.
RICHMOND—Deacon Jesse L. Gray Sr. died Sept. 9, 2009.
The Southampton County native was born May 20,1923, to Arthur H. Gray Sr. and Lena Blount Gray.
He was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons, the trustee board, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the senior choir.
Mr. Gray was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Allen Martin Gray, Jerome Milton Gray; and one grandson, Daemon Gray.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Vaden Gray; three daughters, Deborah Johnson, Barbara Gray and Zenita Gray; four sons, Jesse L. Gray Jr., Dwight Gray, Emmanuel Gray and Ricky Gray; five sisters, Adell, Myra, Margaret, Helen and Mildred; four brothers, Henry, Arthur, Thurman and James; 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Morning Star Baptist Church, Capron, where the Rev. Earl Thompson is pastor; the Rev. Elisha Barnes will deliver the message.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
