To the Editor:

Most people who talk about Bill Barlow seem to say the same thing: He’s a nice guy. While I don’t doubt this as being true, that doesn’t mean someone should be elected to yet another term.

For someone who’s been a member of the House of Delegates for 16 years, I would expect a solid record of accomplishments. Yet very few can cite more than a few items that Barlow has been instrumental in bringing about. The most common issues are sending a letter about the ferry system and helping to get Lt. Kurt Beach some money for his medical treatment.

While these two items are great in and of themselves, they still aren’t enough. Sixteen years of House membership should bring with it a long list of work on behalf of many people like you and me. Where’s the long list?

Granted, state legislature office doesn’t bring with it a huge salary, but I expect more of my representative.

When I wrote to Barlow a few years ago about an issue that was important to me, I never got a response.

When I’ve written to our U.S. senators, I always got a reply.

Barlow has done an OK job, but it’s time for fresh blood with someone who will actually work hard for us.

We need someone who has a lifetime of experience working for the public good and will represent our needs and wishes in the General Assembly.

It’s time to elect Stan Clark.
