To the Editor:

The Drewryville Ruritan Club has accomplished a big project — having the Drewryville School removed. As many of you know, it was a hazard to the community and all of the participants who attended ball games. We were afraid that someone was going to get hurt with the danger of the building like it was. Now people throughout the county can enjoy the ball field and area without this concern.

Southampton County offered to assist in removing the building. Bids were taken and the bid of $25,200 was made to the county to have the school building demolished. An agreement was reached with the county and the club for this amount. The county issued a grant of $10,000, and the club is required to pay back $15,200 in 10 years. This is an interest-free loan.

The Ruritan Club very much appreciates the assistance from Southampton County. Without them, this could not have been accomplished.

We are requesting a donation to assist us in achieving our goal. An anonymous donor has challenged that he or she will give $1 for every $2 that is collected up to $500.

When you give a donation, you will receive a brick from the school. Bricks also can be purchased for $5 each. If you have any questions, call Travis Ramsey, president of Drewryville Ruritan Club, at (434) 658-4378.

Checks can be made payable to Drewryville Ruritan Club and sent to Drewryville Ruritan Club, c/o Virginia Yount, P. O. Box 86, Drewryville, VA 23844

We appreciate you helping us make Drewryville a better place to live.
